The world we live in is not fair. Nor will it ever be, despite every American politicians devotion to establish a perfect state of equality.
We are always seeking someone to blame for the unfairness in our lives. It is much easier to point a finger at someone or something claiming they are the reason life isn’t fair.
It’s the millionaires fault I am broke. It’s my parents fault I am not ambitious. It’s the governments fault I can’t afford a college education. It’s my spouses fault our relationship is struggling. It’s my genetics fault I am overweight.
But there is one thing no one wants to recognize when it comes to the way we see and address fairness. We would rather expend all of our energy trying to make the world fair by continuing to point fingers, taking from Peter to pay Paul and adding people’s names to the list of assholes that have more than we do.
Those who were born in the US to a middle class family and received an education through high school should be punished. Forget it if you have a college degree, you should be condemned for life. This isn’t fair.
If you have a job, means of transportation, access to the internet and can pay your bills add your name to the list of those who are unjust. Man, what an asshole.
Add the names of those who have more ambition, more opportunity, more work ethic, more drive and more determination than others since not everyone was born and raised to seek these things, it’s not fair.
The absolute worst “fairness offenders” are those who live in peace with a roof over their head, clothes on their back, daily food to eat and clean water to drink. These people are abhorrent when it comes to fairness and should be at the top everyone’s shit list. Oh wait, that probably means your name is on the list right next to mine.
Let’s take this one step too far and add to the list those who are alive in this world. It really isn’t fair to those who were never born. Do you see how ludicrous this is?
Okay, sure, it is easy for me to speak of fairness in this way because I am one of the unjust; a privileged asshole. However, there are areas in my life where I have drawn the short end of the stick and I am sure the same is true for you.
But we fail to recognize the one thing that can change the way we see (or don’t see) fairness… attitude.
Life is such that we will all experience being on the other side of fair at some point. But no matter which side of fairness you are on, attitude is the only thing that evens the playing field because we all have one.
A positive attitude is the golden ticket to experiencing life without the fairness filter.
You have 100% control over your attitude. There is no one to blame. No one to point fingers at. Whether it is negative or positive it is because you chose it to be so.
It is not about what you have, but about how you see it and react to it. The choice is yours.
The world we live in is not fair and seeking fairness is being wasteful of the time you have been given on this earth.
So quit looking for fair and make better use of your time by focusing on your attitude instead.
Quit complaining, see the opportunity in every situation, be grateful, learn from failure, use positive words, be inspired and motivated, smile and be happy, read one of the thousands of articles you have access to because of the internet on ways to improve your attitude.
Take ownership of your attitude because it is the only way you will be able to remove the fairness filter and see that the playing field is already even.
Besides those people on your “Privileged Asshole” list don’t really give a shit. They are too busy focusing on their positive attitude.
